Stillwater’s Social District Proposal: Community Weighs In

The City of Stillwater is exploring the establishment of a social district in its downtown area, a move that would allow individuals to purchase and consume alcoholic beverages while walking within a designated zone. This initiative follows authorization granted by the Minnesota Legislature in 2024.

To gauge public opinion and gather community feedback, the city has launched a survey and scheduled an open house event. Residents are encouraged to participate in the survey to share their thoughts on the proposed social district. Additionally, an open house will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Margaret Rivers Room at the Stillwater Library, providing an opportunity for in-person discussions and questions.

The concept of a social district aims to enhance the vibrancy of downtown Stillwater by offering a more flexible and engaging environment for both residents and visitors. However, the city emphasizes the importance of community input to ensure that the implementation aligns with the interests and concerns of its citizens.

For more information on the social district proposal and to access the survey, residents can visit the city’s official website.
