Stillwater is experiencing a period of significant transformation, with several key projects and initiatives underway that promise to shape the city’s future.
New Community Development Director
In early 2026, Jason Zimmerman joined as Stillwater’s Community Development Director. With roots in the Twin Cities, Zimmerman is leading efforts on the Comprehensive Plan, aiming to guide the city’s development for the next two decades. His collaboration with city officials and residents is expected to foster meaningful growth and community engagement.
HealthPartners Lakeview Hospital Expansion
The Stillwater City Council approved the final design for the new HealthPartners Lakeview Hospital in May 2025. The forthcoming six-story, 400,000-square-foot facility will house 97 patient beds, effectively doubling the size of the current campus. This expansion is set to enhance healthcare services and accommodate future growth in the region.
Modernizing Parking Enforcement
To address increasing downtown parking demands, Stillwater expanded its partnership with Passport in March 2026. The city integrated new enforcement tools into its existing system, streamlining operations and improving compliance. This modernization aims to create a more efficient parking experience for residents and visitors alike.
Community Engagement on Social District
Following authorization by the Minnesota Legislature in 2024, Stillwater is exploring the establishment of a social district in its downtown area. Throughout June and July 2025, the city sought community input through surveys and public open houses to gauge public opinion and gather feedback on this initiative.
These developments reflect Stillwater’s commitment to thoughtful growth and community involvement, ensuring the city remains a vibrant and welcoming place for all.
