Stillwater has recently undertaken several initiatives aimed at enhancing community development and infrastructure.
New Community Development Director
In February 2026, Jason Zimmerman was appointed as the city’s Community Development Director. Zimmerman, who grew up on the west side of the Twin Cities, is enthusiastic about contributing to Stillwater’s growth. He is currently working on the Comprehensive Plan, which will guide the city’s development efforts for the next two decades. Zimmerman is also focusing on supporting new developments along Manning Avenue to provide residents with more convenient access to goods and services.
Riverfront Enhancements
The St. Croix Riverfront, a significant asset to Stillwater, is undergoing improvements to offer both recreational and educational opportunities. One notable project is Lumberjack Landing, a 15-acre park developed in partnership with the National Park Service. This park aims to provide pedestrian access points along the Riverwalk, enhancing the riverfront experience for residents and visitors alike.
Additionally, Stillwater, home to over 30 parks and open spaces, received a $6 million grant from the Minnesota Legislature for park improvements. Residents also approved a sales tax increase to fund comprehensive enhancements to the riverfront area.
These initiatives reflect Stillwater’s commitment to thoughtful growth and community enrichment, ensuring that the city continues to be a vibrant place to live and visit.
