Stillwater’s Community Development Director Charts Course for Future Growth

Stillwater has welcomed Jason Zimmerman as its new Community Development Director, bringing a fresh perspective to the city’s growth and planning initiatives.

Comprehensive Planning for the Next Two Decades

Zimmerman is spearheading the development of a Comprehensive Plan that will guide Stillwater’s community and development efforts for the next 20 years. This plan aims to balance growth with the preservation of the city’s unique character.

Enhancing the Riverfront Experience

Recognizing the St. Croix Riverfront as one of Stillwater’s most significant assets, Zimmerman is overseeing several projects to improve and add amenities for residents and visitors. Upcoming initiatives include:

  • Lumberjack Landing: A 15-acre park featuring pedestrian access points along the Riverwalk, developed in partnership with the National Park Service to serve as both a recreational and educational space.
  • Park Improvements: Utilizing a $6 million grant from the Minnesota Legislature, the city plans to enhance more than 30 parks and open spaces, with a focus on riverfront areas.

These efforts aim to enrich the community’s connection to the river and provide diverse recreational opportunities.

Supporting Development Along Manning Avenue

To ensure balanced growth, Zimmerman is also focusing on supporting new development along Manning Avenue. The goal is to enhance local options for goods and services outside the downtown area, providing convenient access for residents on the west side of the city.

With a collaborative approach and a clear vision, Jason Zimmerman is poised to lead Stillwater into a future that honors its rich history while embracing thoughtful development.
