The City of Stillwater is exploring the creation of a downtown social district, a designated area where individuals can purchase and consume alcoholic beverages while walking through the defined zone. This initiative follows authorization granted by the Minnesota Legislature in 2024.
To gauge public opinion and gather feedback, the city has launched a survey and scheduled a public open house. Residents are encouraged to participate in the survey to share their thoughts on the proposed social district. Additionally, the open house will take place on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Margaret Rivers Room at the Stillwater Library.
City staff will collect input throughout June and July to assess community support and address potential concerns. The feedback will inform the city’s decision-making process regarding the establishment of the social district.
