Stillwater City Council Faces Deadlock Over Brixton Townhome Development

The Stillwater City Council recently faced a significant decision regarding the proposed Brixton townhome development, a 108-unit project planned for the southeast corner of Manning Avenue and 80th Street North. The council’s vote resulted in a 2-2 tie, effectively stalling the project’s approval and prompting the scheduling of a special meeting to revisit the matter.

During the council meeting, numerous residents expressed concerns about potential increases in traffic, challenges with school bus navigation, and the absence of sidewalks in the vicinity of the proposed development. In response, both council members and the project’s developer discussed possible design modifications and the addition of buffering measures to address these issues. Despite these discussions, the tie vote prevented the project from advancing at this time.

The special meeting, set for May 5, aims to further deliberate on the Brixton development and seek a resolution that balances community concerns with the city’s growth objectives. Residents are encouraged to participate in the meeting to voice their opinions and stay informed about the project’s progress.
