High School Athletics
Stillwater Area High School, home of the Ponies, offers a comprehensive athletics program. Students can participate in sports such as baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track, volleyball, and wrestling. The school has a storied history, with teams and individual athletes earning recognition at both state and national levels. Notably, since 1913, Stillwater teams have secured 55 Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) State Championships.
Community Sports Programs
Beyond the high school, Stillwater offers numerous community sports programs:
Stillwater Mountain Bike Team
Founded in 2013, the Stillwater Mountain Bike Team has grown from 26 student-athletes to over 90 members. Competing under the Minnesota Cycling Association, the team emphasizes camaraderie and lifelong skills through training and racing. Practices begin in July, with races held from August to October.
Chilkoot Velo
For cycling enthusiasts, Chilkoot Velo promotes group cycling and community engagement in the St. Croix Valley. Since 2009, they’ve organized over 100 annual rides catering to various paces and styles, welcoming both casual riders and seasoned athletes.
Limitless Cycling
Limitless Cycling is an adaptive outdoor program dedicated to enhancing the mental and physical well-being of the community. They empower individuals of all abilities to experience the outdoors by providing piloted adaptive bicycle and Action Trackchair® rides.
Recreational Facilities
Stillwater is home to several top-notch recreational facilities:
St. Croix Valley Recreation Center
Located at 1675 Market Drive, this multi-purpose facility features a 363′ x 245′ dome field house and two NHL-style ice sheets. It hosts a variety of activities, including soccer leagues, open skating, and group skating lessons.
The LumberYard Hockey & Sports Center
Situated at 1650 Washington Ave S, The LumberYard offers a range of programs for hockey, lacrosse, soccer, baseball, and other sports. The facility includes a studio ice rink, fieldhouse, gym, and a retail sporting goods store.
