Vikings Survive in Tampa
The Minnesota Vikings notched a hard-fought 23–16 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, moving to 3–0 on the season as of September 27. A defining moment came in the first quarter when Myles Price returned a punt 86 yards for a touchdown, setting the tone. Quarterback Kyler Murray connected with Jordan Addison for a 41-yard TD pass, bolstering the offense when it counted.
Meanwhile, the defense clamped down—allowing just one touchdown in the past 31 possessions, holding the Bucs to 2-for-17 on third downs and 0-for-2 in the red zone. It wasn’t all smooth sailing: Baker Mayfield dislocated his thumb late in the fourth quarter, and star receiver Justin Jefferson exited early with an ankle issue.
Golden Gophers Pull Off Big Win
The University of Minnesota Golden Gophers traveled to Seattle and stunned #23 Washington 27–24 on September 26. Drake Lindsey threw three first-half touchdowns to three different receivers, and the Gophers built a 14–0 lead early. Washington fought back, but a 51-yard field goal by Luke Drzewiecki late in the game sealed the win.
Defensively, Minnesota got after the Huskies all night—seven sacks, two interceptions, and key stops on third downs. The rushing attack added balance, while Washington’s ground game struggled with injuries limiting depth.
Stillwater Ponies’ Football: Building Momentum
Locally, the Stillwater Area High School Ponies are navigating a challenging 6A schedule. Their season kicked off on the road vs. Maple Grove and includes power matchups with Shakopee and Mounds View. Homecoming night brings Mounds View to Pony Stadium for Week 4; the Ponies will also take on Woodbury for “Tackle Cancer Night.”
As of September 25, the Ponies are 1–3 overall, having dropped close ones to Mounds View and Shakopee, but delivering a strong win against Park (35–6). It’s a season where incremental improvements—on defense, in special teams, and in momentum—look more important than the win-loss column.
Looking Ahead
For fans keeping score:
- The Vikings head into their next game hoping Jefferson’s recovery is swift while maintaining defensive pressure.
- The Gophers return home to face No. 18 Michigan, aiming to extend Big Ten momentum.
- The Ponies’ upcoming home games—particularly Homecoming vs. Mounds View—offer chances for both celebration and statement moments.
