Hi neighbors! Mia Erickson here—if you’re looking for ways to spend time outdoors, explore heritage, or just get away for the weekend near Stillwater, this guide covers standout parks, trails, and landmarks that locals love.
Parks & Natural Spaces
Pine Point Regional Park
With over five miles of multi-use trails winding through pine forests, marshes, and lake shoreline, Pine Point is a peaceful escape. It’s ideal for biking, hiking, cross-country skiing, bird watching, and even horseback riding in certain sections. Vehicle permits are required. Open roughly from dawn until 10 p.m. daily.
Stillwater City Parks
There’s a lot packed into our city park system. Lily Lake Park offers fishing piers and boat launches, while Washington Square and Teddy Bear Park are great for families—playgrounds, picnic shelters, ball fields, even pickleball courts at nearby locations.
Trails & Scenic Walks
Brown’s Creek State Trail
This paved trail runs from the Gateway State Trail right into Stillwater. With relatively gentle terrain, it’s perfect for a relaxed walk, bike ride, or anytime you want fresh air with easy access. Bathrooms and parking are available along the route.
St. Croix Crossing Trail Loop & Boom Site River Trail
If you want river views, historic structures, and a moderate walk or ride, the St. Croix Crossing Trail Loop includes a stretch over the iconic Lift Bridge and connects to riverfront paths. The Boom Site trail is a shorter, quieter route along the river with light hills and plenty of photo ops.
History & Culture
Stillwater Commercial Historic District & Lift Bridge
Downtown Main Street is full of restored historic buildings housing shops, restaurants, and galleries. Don’t miss the Stillwater Lift Bridge—built in 1931—still serving pedestrians and cyclists, spanning the St. Croix River.
Washington County Historic Courthouse & Warden’s House Museum
Perched on a bluff overlooking Stillwater, the Historic Courthouse is Minnesota’s oldest standing courthouse, with impressive architecture and regular tours. Pair it with a visit to the Warden’s House and the Heritage Center for deeper dives into local history.
More Ideas for the Weekend

- Grab your walking shoes and explore the gateway at Heritage Square or Pioneer Park—good spots to wind down and people-watch.
- Explore still and landmark homes in the Heirloom & Landmark program; it’s fun just to drive or walk around South Hill or downtown and spot Victorian-era architecture.

- If history is your thing, check in with Washington County Historical Society for events or rotating exhibits—often coupled with walking tours.
No matter what your pace—whether you’re moving hard on a trail, meandering through history, or just soaking up river breeze—Stillwater’s blend of nature and charm gives you plenty of options. Let me know if you want ideas focused on families, adventure, or something quieter.
