Stillwater’s Community Development Initiatives: A Look Ahead

Stillwater, Minnesota, is actively pursuing several community development initiatives aimed at enhancing the city’s infrastructure and quality of life for its residents.

New HealthPartners Lakeview Hospital

The Stillwater City Council has approved the final design for the new HealthPartners Lakeview Hospital. The upcoming six-story facility will encompass over 400,000 square feet and feature 97 patient beds, effectively doubling the size of the current hospital. This expansion is designed to accommodate future growth and introduce new specialty care services, all while incorporating environmentally sustainable practices. Construction is slated to commence in July.

Appointment of Community Development Director

In a move to steer the city’s growth strategically, Stillwater has appointed Jason Zimmerman as the new Community Development Director. Zimmerman is leading the development of the Comprehensive Plan, which will guide the city’s community and development efforts for the next two decades. His focus includes continuing existing projects and fostering meaningful growth within the community.

Water Quality Improvements

Addressing concerns over water quality, the city is implementing a temporary treatment facility at Well #10 to mitigate PFAS contamination. Engineering design is expected to be completed by the end of March, with construction planned to start in late summer or early fall. The system is anticipated to be operational in spring 2026, ensuring the provision of safe drinking water to residents.

Upcoming Community Events

Residents can look forward to a variety of community events, including the 92nd Stillwater Lumberjack Days, scheduled from July 16 to July 19. This annual festival celebrates the city’s rich history and offers activities for all ages. Additionally, the River Valley Yoga Festival is set to take place from September 11 to September 13, promoting health and wellness within the community.

These initiatives reflect Stillwater’s commitment to fostering a vibrant and sustainable community for its residents.
