Stillwater’s Community Development Initiatives: A Look Ahead

Stillwater’s Community Development Initiatives: A Look Ahead

Stillwater, Minnesota, is actively pursuing several community development initiatives aimed at enhancing the city’s infrastructure and quality of life for its residents.

New Community Development Director

In February 2026, Jason Zimmerman was appointed as the new Community Development Director. Zimmerman, who grew up on the west side of the Twin Cities, is enthusiastic about contributing to Stillwater’s growth. He is currently working on the Comprehensive Plan that will guide the city’s development efforts for the next two decades.

Water Quality Improvements

The city is addressing water quality concerns by implementing a temporary treatment facility at Well #10. This facility aims to mitigate PFAS contamination detected in some wells. Engineering design is expected to be completed by the end of March, with construction planned to start in late summer or early fall. The system is anticipated to be operational in spring 2026, ensuring safe drinking water for the community.

Upcoming Events and Community Engagement

Stillwater continues to host a variety of events to engage the community. Notable upcoming events include:

  • Tricia and the Toonies: A family-friendly performance scheduled for July 7, 2026, at 10:00 AM.
  • Summer Tuesdays: An evening event on July 7, 2026, starting at 5:00 PM.
  • 92nd Stillwater Lumberjack Days: A three-day festival from July 16 to July 18, 2026, celebrating the city’s heritage.

These events provide opportunities for residents to come together and celebrate Stillwater’s rich history and vibrant community spirit.
