Stillwater’s Community Development: A Look at Recent Initiatives

Stillwater has been actively pursuing initiatives to enhance community development and address local concerns. A notable development is the appointment of Jason Zimmerman as the new Community Development Director. Zimmerman, who grew up on the west side of the Twin Cities, is enthusiastic about contributing to Stillwater’s growth and is currently working on the Comprehensive Plan that will guide the city’s development for the next two decades.

In addition to leadership changes, the city is addressing environmental concerns related to PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in the water supply. Construction is underway for a new PFAS treatment facility at Well #10, with completion expected by May 2026. This facility aims to ensure the safety and quality of drinking water for residents.

Furthermore, the city is considering adjustments to its event schedule in response to resident feedback about the frequency of festivals and their impact on the community. Discussions are ongoing to find a balance that maintains Stillwater’s vibrant cultural scene while addressing residents’ concerns.

These initiatives reflect Stillwater’s commitment to thoughtful growth and responsiveness to community needs.
