Stillwater’s historic downtown has long been a hub for festivals and events, drawing thousands of visitors annually. However, the growing number of festivities has led to concerns among residents about congestion, noise, and the overall impact on daily life.
In response, the Stillwater City Council is considering measures to limit the number of events held in the downtown area. One proposal under discussion is to designate certain days each month as “event-free,” during which no permitted events would take place. This initiative aims to balance the city’s vibrant tourism industry with the quality of life for its residents.
Mayor Ted Kozlowski acknowledged the community’s concerns, stating, “Events continue to grow in both size and number. We have lovingly called this effort the ‘no event event.’ So, we looked at different days, maybe one day a month, where we would not approve event permits.”
The council is currently seeking input from both residents and business owners to ensure that any decisions made reflect the community’s best interests. Public forums and surveys are planned in the coming months to gather feedback.
Residents are encouraged to participate in these discussions to help shape the future of Stillwater’s event planning and ensure a harmonious balance between community life and tourism.
