Stillwater’s historic downtown has long been a hub for festivals and events, drawing thousands of visitors annually. However, the growing number of festivities has led to concerns among residents about congestion, noise, and the strain on city services.
In response, the Stillwater City Council is exploring options to limit the frequency of downtown events. One proposal under consideration is designating specific days each month as “event-free” to provide respite for the community and city resources.
Mayor Ted Kozlowski acknowledged the delicate balance between promoting tourism and maintaining residents’ quality of life. “We want to continue to build on our success as a destination city, but we also need to listen to our community’s concerns,” he stated during a recent council meeting.
City officials are seeking input from residents and local businesses to develop a policy that addresses these issues while preserving Stillwater’s vibrant cultural scene.
